The Dandenongs are rich in wildlife and Linden Gardens is no exception. With 130 native bird species, 31 native mammals, 21 reptiles and nine amphibian species recorded, you are bound to come across a few of them either day or night during your stay.
Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, Crimson Rosellas, Laughing Kookaburras, Eastern Yellow Robins, Yellow-faced Honeyeaters and Pied Currawongs are some of the native birds most frequently seen in the area. The Lyrebird who has the ability to mimic the calls of other bird species is also a famous inhabitant of the area.
With many bird feeders around the property you will be delighted by the array of colourful birds feeding right outside your window. It's fascinating to observe the pecking-order as the hierarchy of Rosellas, Cockatoos and Magpies fight for their share of an easy meal.
Scarred eucalypt trees are evidence of the night-time feeding of Yellow-bellied Gliders, and tiny Feather-tail Gliders who make their homes in the hollows of mature trees.
One of the noisiest of the night-time creatures is the Possum; they'll be the ones that sound like bears and leave you little presents on the paths for the morning. Tree Goannas can also be found in the area if you have a keen eye.
Some of our recent finds roaming around the property is a regular wombat visitor (he's the one that leaves the really big presents on the paths) and also some blue clawed yabbies which now call the creek that runs through Linden home.
