Winding Roads to Linden Gardens

Linden Gardens is only an hour from Melbourne and there are two main routes to take. We recommend coming via the Monash Freeway as it is an easier drive and brings you up the mountain through the villages from Upper Ferntree Gully. You can also come via the Eastern Freeway which brings you up the other side from Montrose. Please don't use your GPS to navigate the Mountain, it can take you up some unsealed roads that your car won't appreciate.

From Melbourne via the Monash Freeway

Take the Ferntree Gully Rd exit and follow to the end where it intersects with the Burwood Highway and turn right. Follow the Burwood Highway until you pass the Upper Ferntree Gully Train Station on your left and travel beneath an overhead railway bridge. Take the left turn sign posted for Mt Dandenong, this is the Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd. Follow this through Tremont, Ferny Creek, the villages of Sassafras and Olinda and continue through to Mt Dandenong. As you get closer you will pass The Mt Dandenong Hotel, The Pig & Whistle and Tatra Reception Centre all on your right, and Linden Gardens is just past this on the right hand side. Pull up out front and come down to reception to check in.

From Melbourne via the Eastern Freeway

Follow the Eastern Freeway to the end and turn right at the Springvale Rd. Turn left at Canterbury Rd and continue until you reach the Montrose roundabout. Turn right at the roundabout onto the Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd. Continue past the Silvan Dam scenic lookout on your left and Five Ways Gallery on your right. When you pass the William Ricketts Sanctuary on your right and Churinga Cafe on your left get ready to turn in on the left as Linden Gardens is just round the next corner. Pull up out front and come down to reception to check in.
