There are so many great shops on the Mountain, ranging from cellars to deli produce, sweet shops, smellies and homewares. If you are a keen Antiques Roadshow viewer then you will also enjoy pottering around the various Antique shops. They range from fun bric-a-brac to genuine antiques. There are so many shops that you are bound to find your favourites, here are just a few of ours.
You know the feeling when you've tried some wine at a little winery tucked away in the middle of nowhere and thought you’d never see it again! Well you can pretty much guarantee you’ll find it here. With a fantastic range of boutique wine from around Australia, you won’t find people more passionate about wine. There is a good reason that they were Finalists in the Victorian Liquor Store Awards in 2007.
You can literally spend hours in this shop. It is a treat for the senses in every respect with an eclectic mix of arts and crafts from all over the world. You get a real sense of quality and good workmanship as you browse through and the range selected by the owners over the last 20 years will leave you unable to walk out empty handed. There are also a few other craft shops along this road to be explored.
This is one of my favourite shops on the Mountain. I often pop in just to unwind. The mood is magical and you get a real feeling that your soul and spirit are being cleansed on the way in. You can browse the many mystical charms and crystals or maybe even have a tarot reading. Look out for the beautiful big white fluffy cat that roams the store - but don’t let it out!
Like to spend hours rummaging through old vinyl? Then you’ll love Smits & Bits, a little market tucked away behind the main row of shops in Sassafras. You’ll find antique furniture, glassware and crockery as well as a huge selection of vinyl records, books, stamps and coins. There is also a huge dolls house on display. In winter the fire in the middle of the courtyard keeps it cosy and warm.
This is another one of my favourite shops, I can lose myself for hours flicking through the mounted historical photographs. The collection is quite extensive and includes shots from around the mountain in the late 1800’s and early 1920’s as well as other parts of Victoria and Australia. You will be surprised what you will find and if there is a particular one you like you can also get it framed.
