Healesville Sanctuary is one of Australia’s most acclaimed wildlife sanctuaries. Showcasing more than 200 species of Australian wildlife, the Sanctuary is a fantastic location to view native animals in their natural habitat. Tucked into the foothills of the stunning Yarra Valley, the Sanctuary’s 30 hectares of bushland provides a distinctly Australian setting. Here you can experience close-up encounters with some of Australia’s most unique and captivating wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos, wombats, emus, dingoes, birds of prey and platypuses.
Visit the Australian Wildlife Health Center to see how the animals and wildlife brought in from the community are cared for. This is the ultimate experience for those who have dreamed about working with animals or going behind the scenes to get a first hand look at the role of a keeper. For the ultimate wildlife experience, you will become an assistant to a keeper for a morning while they are on Animal Keeping rounds. You will have the exclusive opportunity to meet the keepers and become one of the Animal Department team as you observe animals, assist with daily exhibit maintenance, diet preparation and enrichments. Your day could include one of a variety of keeping rounds, where you'll get to meet amazing Australian wildlife such as Platypus, Kangaroos, Koalas, Reptiles or Birds as you assist with their daily care. This is a hands-on experience in animal keeping so get ready to be a part of the daily action of the Sanctuary. You will leave this encounter having gained unique insights into wildlife care and the daily running of a real-life working Sanctuary.
