Historic Homes in and around the Yarra Valley, Dandenong Ranges and Mt Dandenong

There are many historic homes in the Dandenong Ranges, but most you will find are homes to residents of the hills. There are a few however that have opened there doors to the public so that you can see how pioneers in the area would have lived in the late 1880's and early 1900's.

    • Take a trip back in time to an authentic recreation of pioneer life that will engage and entertain you. Wandin's earliest brick homestead and its gardens have been fully restored and you can even meet some of the descendants of the pioneer families who will bring local history alive as you tour this award-winning heritage attraction. Also catch the ‘Paddock to Plate’ farmers market on the 2nd Saturday of each month.

    • In 1908, Invermay, a grand home, plus stables and servants quarters, was built by Sir Matthew Davies on the 279 ha property. Later bought by Miss Helen Simson who it was renamed Doongalla meaning "place of peace". Regrettably, a bushfire swept through in 1932 and destroyed all the buildings except the servants quarters and stables. Now all that remains is some out buildings and information on what used to be there.

    • The homestead built in the 1850's is surrounded by many original outbuildings such as the barn, dairy, schoolhouse and butcher shop. Be taken back in time to the mid 1800s and introduced to the Bell family which farmed here for more than 100 years. Enjoy a picnic by the lake and meet the large variety of farm animals.
